Even though New Mexico has been in the midst of the worst wildfire in the state’s history, one mountain village is still unscathed and ready for the Independence Day holiday.

Rain has helped quash the Little Lewis Fire, and the Village of Cloudcroft, New Mexico is continuing with their 4th of July festivities. Fires have burned around 104,000 acres in other areas across the state.

Evacuation orders for many of the areas involved in the Little Lewis fire have been lifted.

Lisa King with the Cloudcroft Chamber of Commerce discussed the weather and the holiday’s events with KFYO.
