A Texas Tech football quarterback is in the running for a national award.

Senior quarterback Seth Doege has been named to the preseason watch list for the 2011 Davey O’Brien Award.

Doege was a semifinalist for last year’s Davey O’Brien Award, which is presented annually to the nation’s best college quarterback.

Five Big 12 Conference quarterbacks have also been included on the list, including Landry Jones of Oklahoma, Collin Klein with Kansas State, Casey Pachall of TCU, and Geno Smith with West Virginia.

Doege was the NCAA passing leader in 2011, throwing for 4,004 yards along with 28 touchdowns.

Sixteen semifinalists will be named on Monday, October 22nd. The 2012 Davey O’Brien winner will be announced on Thursday, December 6th.
