Texas Tech’s School of Music will present a night of percussion and steel this week.

Tech’s Percussion Ensembles I and II, along with the Steel Drum Bands, will perform at the Allen Theatre at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, October 23rd.

The groups will present original compositions of Michael Udow, a world-renowned percussionist and educator, and will also feature soloists Cory Dolter and James McDonald.

Alan Shinn, Texas Tech professor of percussion and associate director for undergraduate studies, will also be recognized as the recipient of the Percussive Arts Society’s Lifetime Achievement in Education Award. Shinn has taught for more than 30 years.

The Steel Drum bands will perform tunes by John Lennon and Paul McCartney, AC/DC, Lord Kitchener, and more in the Allen Theatre courtyard during a reception for concert goers.

The concert is free to attend, and open to the public.
