Texas Tech Baseball Pitcher Jonny Drozd Named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week

A Texas Tech baseball player has earned conference honors.

Red Raider junior left-handed pitcher Jonny Drozd has been named as the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week.

Drozd went 2-0 with 12.1 scoreless innings, and struck out 12 while allowing just six hits and one walk on the week. He is 3-1 this season with a 2.55 ERA in six appearances with 24.2 innings pitched, 17 strikeouts, and two walks.

The Lake Dallas, Texas native is the second Tech pitcher to receive Big 12 Newcomer of the Week honors, joining Duke von Schamann in 2011.

Tech outfielder Devon Conley was last week’s Newcomer of the Week.
