The group plans to produce a report by the end of 2012 assessing the state’s readiness to maximize any opportunities which might be created by the expansion of the Panama Canal.
The closure will allow crews to concrete pave the new westbound frontage road.
Both north and southbound University traffic will not have through access during the paving operation, and will be detoured around the area.
Crews will set barricades Wednesday morning and begin removing the median barrier at the University Avenue Intersection.
Lane closures can be expected throughout the duration of the project, which is expected to be completed in October of 2012.
Westbound frontage road traffic will only be able to travel south on Buddy Holly to 9th Street where motorists will connect with northbound Avenue L or Avenue Q to access the freeway.
Motorists driving through the TxDOT Lubbock District will see some “office spaces” complete with desks, filing cabinets, and orange cones to remind drivers that that the work zones are some employee’s offices.

Signs placed on state highway right of way or found to be potential safety hazards may be removed by TxDOT immediately without any prior notice. TxDOT says that violators may be charged for the removal of the illegally placed signs.
