Texas Tech President Lawrence Schovanec said in a statement on April 29th that in-person classes will resume in the fall of 2020 in a phased-in approach.

Texas Tech President Lawrence Schovanec said on Wednesday, March 18th that a student that was evacuated from Europe has tested positive for COVID-19 upon returning to Lubbock.

Schovanec also spoke on the success of Chris Beard, and Texas Tech being ranked #5 in the nation, saying "What Coach Beard has achieved in terms of talent he's bringing in, it's wonderful."

"These tragedies are a different issue, and people should know that just recently, in light of what's happened, we've added to our police force, we've installed additional cameras around campus, especially where there will be large crowds. This summer our police department cooperated with other law enforcement agencies and live shooter training. That is one matter that we take terribly seriously. On the other hand, the "Guns Up" slogan is not a statement about guns. It's not an endorsement of firearms. It's a gesture that is part of the Tech Culture. It represents our spirit and I see this as totally separate from these other, more serious issues that come up," Schovanec said.

"It's been pretty neat and all the after effects have been really wonderful," Schovanec said.

"It's been an incredible, incredible experience for Texas Tech, for Lubbock, for the whole state. I think it's something people will remember for a long time," Schovanec said, "who would have ever thought that was going to happen last year after we lost so many players. It was an amazing accomplishment. What a credit to Coach Beard."
