Severe Thunderstorm Watch in Effect Until 8pm
The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for much of the South Plains until 8 p.m. CST.
The counties of Bailey, Briscoe, Castro, Cochran, Cottle, Crosby, Dickens, Floyd, Garza, Hale, Hockley, Kent, Lamb, Lubbock, Motley, Parmer, Swisher, Terry and Yoakum in the South Plains and Panhandle are in the watch area.
This weather statement comes on the heels of High Wind Warnings that are due to stay in effect until 6 p.m. CST.
Winds will be out of the southwest at a sustained 35-40 mph and gusts of up to 60 mph. Visibility could be reduced to as low as a 1/4 mile because of blowing dust.
The full list of counties in today’s High Wind Warning is: Parmer, Castro, Swisher, Bailey, Lamb, Hale, Cochran, Hockley, Lubbock, Yoakum, Lynn and Terry.
