Friday morning, Texas U.S. Senator John Cornyn appeared on the Chad Hasty Show after speaking on the Senate floor concerning the vote to defund Obamacare out of the federal budget.

Senator Cornyn said he supported cloture (Editor's Note: which hours later he voted for) concerning the bill to fund the federal budget. He explained why on KFYO's Chad Hasty Show,  "Well, Chad we all share the same goal of defeating Obamacare because it's bad for the country. If you heard my remarks on the floor of the Senate this morning (partially aired on KFYO), I laid all that case out.

"But the reality is that according to the Congressional Research Service even if the government were to shutdown, Obamacare would continue to be funded. That is because there are alternative sources of funding. So, if the goal is to stop Obamacare, a goal we all share, even shutting down the government won't accomplish that goal.  But again, as you and I have talked about before this is not a difference in goals. It's a good faith difference in achieving that goal."

Texas' senators differed on the cloture issue as Senator Ted Cruz was a proponent continuing the debate and not voting for cloture.

Senator Cornyn went on to say that he and a number of Republicans would go on to vote for a bill to specifically defund Obamacare, rather than stripping the funding out of the federal budget. "I think a better tactic is to force the Red State Democrats, who are running in states Mitt Romney won in 2012 by double digits, to be put on the record (concerning Obamacare)," Sen. Cornyn said. "They voted for Obamacare in the first place. Now in light of all of the unkept promises and bad experience over the past four years, give them a chance to vote to defund Obamacare. If they don't, then I think we're in the best position we can be to run against them in 2014 and to regain the majority in the U.S. Senate."

Later on in the interview, Sen. Cornyn praised Sen. Cruz for attracting attention to the Obamacare issue, "I've got to give Ted Cruz a lot of credit for bringing national attention to this issue in a way that nobody else has before," Sen. Cornyn said. "I think you're going to see a confluence of issues to allow us, at the very least, to delay Obamacare for a year, if not ultimately dismantle it."
