Thursday afternoon, a Republican panel voted to select Dustin Burrows to fill the ballot vacancy for Texas House District 83 in the upcoming general election.

The panel was made up of Republican county chairman from HD 83, minus Lubbock County, where a separate representative was elected to serve on the panel.

The ballot vacancy was created after State Rep. Charles Perry (R- Lubbock) removed his name from the ballot for HD 83 to run in the Special Election for Texas Senate District 28. The Special Election for SD 28 is September 9.

Other candidates vying to be selected for the HD 83 ballot vacancy included Allen Adkins and Sondra Ziegler.  Adkins had removed his name from consideration earlier this week before the vote took place.
