The HALT Act, HR 2497, is the Republicans' response to the Obama Administration’s decision to review the case files of some 300,000 illegal immigrants.  Opponents of the  decision consider the administration’s action to be “backdoor amnesty.”  The HALT Act, if passed, would take away the president’s authority in immigration cases.

“If the Obama administration has its way, millions of illegal immigrants will be able to live and work legally in the U.S.,” Neugebauer said.  “This unilateral decision will saddle American communities with the costs of providing education and medical care to illegal immigrants.  It will also place our communities at risk by not deporting criminal immigrants.
