Power Outage Hits Brownfield on Saturday

A widespread power outage hit the South Plains city of Brownfield around 10 o’clock Saturday night. Four Lyntegar Electrical Cooperative, Inc. substations lost power, thereby cutting off electrical service to Brownfield residents. The Lyntegar substations lost power due to an Xcel Energy transmission outage.
People at dance halls within Brownfield took to standing in the streets during the power outage.
One substation in the Brownfield region was put back online around Midnight. The rest of the Brownfield substations were online around 1:30a and power was restored for the city of Brownfield.
Electrical service to Meadow and the rest of the Brownfield region is expected to be restored during the Sunday overnight hours (January 13, 2013).
