Miranda Lambert is reaching out to fans via social media to ask for financial assistance after a K-9 officer was killed in the line of duty in her Texas hometown.

The country superstar operates an animal rescue called the MuttNation Foundation with her mother, Bev Lambert. Founded in 2007, the advocacy group’s mission is to “end animal cruelty, neglect, and homelessness” through a variety of programs, including spay and neuter campaigns, medical treatments, adoption events, mill rescues, service dog training and more.

Lambert shared a story from the foundation’s Facebook page via her own Facebook on Friday (Jan. 22), telling the story of a beloved K-9 officer named Ogar, who died in the line of duty on Jan. 19.

“K-9 Ogar was shot and killed while attempting an apprehension of a subject who was in a stolen automobile in Lindale, Texas. Ogar was tracking one of the 3 subjects in a wooded area when he was shot. K-9 officer Ogar was utilized throughout East Texas on many law enforcement cases. Ogar, along with his handler Deputy Constable Kevin Petty, assisted in drug seizures, search and rescues as well as suspect apprehensions,” the post reads. Ogar was a Belgian Malinois who served for a year and a half before his death.

MuttNation Foundation is raising funds to help Ogar’s precinct acquire another K-9 officer. All funds received through February 22, 2016 will be dedicated to that cause. You can donate locally by visiting any Southside Bank location and contributing to MuttNation Foundation in Ogar’s name, or donate online by visiting MuttNation Foundation’s official website and clicking the “donate now” button. You can also donate by mailing a check to MuttNation Foundation, PO Box 1270, Lindale, Texas, 75771 with Ogar’s name in the memo line.
