Monday on the Chad Hasty Show, GOP strategist Matt Mackowiak discussed the race for Texas Governor and the possibility of David Barton running against John Cornyn.

According to the Texas Tribune poll, Greg Abbott is leading only in single digits over Davis, 25% of voters still unsure about their decision. In response to these numbers, Mackowiak stated that he thinks the election is still too far away to rely on such polls for ballot predictions. He suggested people should wait to see what happens with primary. However, he also predicted Wendy Davis will take confidence in these polls and use this to raise money.

Mackiak predicted Senator John Cornyn would win reelection, in spite of some potential opposition that may come from David Barton, former vice chairmen of Republican Party of Texas, if he decides to run. Mackowiak described Barton as "a very strong social conservative." Mackowiak doesn't think Cornyn is vulnerable enough to be subject to any real competition, particularly because Barton would focus nearly completely on social issues. He said, "I know some people think Cornyn is vulnerable. But at this point, I just don't see that being a reality."
