A Lubbock High School student will compete in Olympic Trials next week.

Swimmer Madisyn Cox has qualified to compete in the 200 meter IM next week in Omaha, Nebraska.

Only five percent of all swimmers, including college and post-collegiate athletes qualify for the trials, so simply qualifying to compete is a significant achievement.

Cox will also time-trial more events to assist with seeding purposes at the Junior National Championships, which will be held in August.

The Olympic Trials will be held June 25th through July 2nd in the Quest Center.

“It has been very exciting to watch Madisyn set and accomplish such high goals,” said Trey Hayes, Lubbock ISD head swim coach and co-director of athletics. “Most people have no real concept of the training, sacrifice, and dedication it takes to qualify for the USA Olympic Trials. Madisyn never fails to put her all into every practice, every day.”
