Thursday night, at a regularly scheduled meeting, the Lubbock City Council took up the issue of appointments to the Lubbock Power and Light Electric Utility Board (EUB).

Nine Lubbock citizens, plus the mayor who serves as an Ex-Officio Member, serve on the EUB.  Four of the nine slots were up for appointment Thursday night.

The first seat discussed was the one currently held by Clayton Isom (pictured).  Isom won reappointment to the EUB through a 4-3 vote over Steve Massengale. Mayor Glen Robertson and council members Jeff Griffith, Karen Gibson and Jim Gerlt voted for Isom.

The second seat up for discussion was the one held by Suzanne Blake, who asked to not be reappointed to the EUB.  Drew Tucker and Massengale were nominated for the seat, with Tucker winning appointment by a 4-3 margin.  Mayor Robertson and council members Griffith, Gibson and Gerlt voted for Tucker.

The next EUB seat discussed by the council was the one currently held by Emilio Abeyta. Abeyta was voted off of the EUB in favor of Todd McKee by a 4-3 margin.  Again, Mayor Robertson and council members Griffith, Gibson and Gerlt voted in the majority.

The final EUB seat discussed at Thursday's council meeting was the one currently held by George Carpenter. Carpenter was voted off of the EUB by a 5-2 margin in favor of Stephanie Hill. Mayor Robertson and council members Griffith, Gibson, Gerlt and Floyd Price voted in the majority.

A by-product of McKee being voted on to the EUB was that he had to be removed from the city's Planning and Zoning Commission (P&Z) due to rules in the city charter. To replace McKee, the council voted unanimously to appoint Steve Massengale to P&Z.

The four people who received appointments, or re-appointment, to the EUB on Thursday will serve a two-year term which will expire in 2016.  The other five members of the EUB will have their two-year terms expire next year.
