An area health clinic dedicated to serving local children has received a hefty grant.

The Lubbock Children’s Health Clinic has received a grant from the J.T. and Margaret Talkington Charitable Foundation for $1.6 million.

The funds will go to expand the group’s current facility at 302 North University Avenue and to construct a new pediatric clinic in east Lubbock.

They will add 1,650 square feet to the north clinic, and the new clinic will be approximately 5,100 square feet.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for Lubbock Children’s Health Clinic to expand services in two medically underserved areas of Lubbock,” said Sue Hill, LCHC executive director.

The new east clinic is expected to open in the fall of 2014, and the north clinic expansion is expected to be completed in May of 2014.
