A program aimed at teaching kids about running a business will be held in Lubbock beginning this week.

Lemonade Day is a program that teaches kids through experience how to start, own, and operate their own business by having a lemonade stand.

The main goal of Lemonade Day is to empower youth to take ownership of their own lives. Last year, there were 120,000 kids in 31 cities who participated in Lemonade Day across the United States and Canada, and the group hopes to have the program in 100 cities with 1 million kids involved by 2013.

Each child that registers will receive a backpack with an Entrepreneur Workbook that teaches them the 14 lessons of Lemonade Day, including how to set goals, develop a business plan, secure investors, produce a product, and make a profit. Kids keep all the money they earn from this program.

Kids in pre-kindergarten through high school are encouraged to participate. The kickoff event will be held at the Science Spectrum at 2579 South Loop 289 on Thursday, February 16th from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
