A Texas U.S. Senator has weighed in on the United States breaking a new record.

Tuesday morning, the U.S. Treasury Department announced that the country now has more than $16 trillion in debt.

This comes as voters prepare to go to the polls on November 6th to choose if Barack Obama, a Democrat, will remain in the White House, or move Republican Mitt Romney into the position.

“Today is yet another shameful benchmark in the Obama administration’s fiscal record,” said U.S. Senator John Cornyn.

“With Senate Democrats refusing to pass a budget and our gross debt eclipsing the size of our economy, the need for a change in leadership is greater than ever.”
