Hurry up and spend the money!  That’s the message Mayor Tom Martin received in a letter from an assistant secretary in the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Previously, the city had received a grant of  $947,453 to help the homeless.  But the letter says that HUD is concerned that the city may not spend all the money by July, as required.  The official points out that the city needs to spend more than $17,000 per month to meet the deadline.  The official offers to provide help to make sure the money is spent.

“The city may request technical assistance  to resolve any challenges preventing it from meeting  expenditure requirements," according to the letter.

In addition, the government offers to discuss strategies “to increase program spending.”
