On Tuesday's edition of Lubbock's First News, GOP strategist and founder of MustReadTexas.com Matt Mackowiak talked with Chad and Rex about the latest goings-on in the GOP race.

Mackowiak said that it seems pretty clear Mitt Romney will become the Republican nominee. Now it comes down to when he'll receive the appropriate number of delegates to make it official.

"The question for me remains when and if does Romney reach that magic number? If he doesn't reach 1,144 on the first ballot at the convention in Tampa, I think all bets are off, and that is where you could have a contested convention."

Right now, Romney has only half the required number of delegates he needs to clench the nomination. Mackowiak also spoke about the other two candidates, saying that Rick Santorum must win Pennsylvania and several others sates to remain in the running. He also said that Newt Gingrich is no longer running a serious campaign, and tat he should have gotten out of the race a long time ago.
