On the Monday edition of The Chad Hasty Show, GOP strategist and co-founder of MustReadTexas.com Matt Mackowiak talked with Chad Hasty about the latest national and statewide issues.

The 83rd Texas legislative session begins tomorrow, and Mackowiak said there are plenty of issues the legislature needs to look at. He said some of the big issues the legislature will tackle include water plans, state transportation plans and vouchers. But according to Mackowiak, the biggest issue the legislature should tackle is school reform.

"You've got 500 schools in Texas that are failing, that are not meeting the acceptable standards of schools. And for kids in those schools, if they can't afford private school, they have no option...so school choice and school reform are going to be really big issues, whether they can get it done or not in this session remains to be seen."

In nationwide issues, Mackowiak gave his thoughts of Chuck Hagel's nomination to Secretary of Defense. He said that there were a lot of concerns about Hagel voting against sanctions and questionable comments against Israel, and said that Republicans might be able to filibuster Hagel if they can rally together.
