Water Main Breaks Creates Giant Sinkhole in El Paso

EL PASO, Texas (AP) — A water main break on an El Paso street has left a sinkhole 20 feet deep and 40 feet wide and hundreds of people without water.

The break occurred early Saturday and crews spent all day trying to fix it.

El Paso Water Utilities spokesman Javier Camacho says repairs have been complicated because the 24-inch pipe is near a natural gas line.

Trucks carrying about 4,000 gallons of drinkable water were brought in for residents and businesses left dry because of the problem on the city's far east side.

Camacho says one motorist drove into the sinkhole and had to be rescued by firefighters.
