Lubbock County Commissioners have approved a tax increase proposal of nearly two cents. Lubbock County Sheriff Kelly Rowe has asked for more funds to deal with an increase in drug crime in the county. Commissioners argue that the tax increase would cover what the Sheriff has asked for and other items. According to KCBD, without the tax increase the county would collect close to $58 million dollars. With the tax increase the county will collect over $60 million.

Here's how the funds would be distributed, according to the Lubbock County Auditor: $650,000 to a cost of living adjustment, $300,000 for an adjustment for the district attorney's office salaries, $1.5 million for LSO  and $3.6 million for the Law Enforcement Center.
