On Monday's edition of Lubbock's First News, Congressman Randy Neugebauer talked with Chad Hasty and Rex Andrew about the latest goings-on in Washington.

With food stamps taking up 80% of the new Farm Bill, and the shaky future of social security, Neugebauer said it's time to start having serious and frank discussions on the future of America. He said that America cannot continue to rely so heavily on government benefits, or we will end up in the same situation that Europe is in right now.

"We have become, instead of a nation of empowerment, we're becoming a nation of entitlement...more and more people everyday are depending on the federal government, and when we begin to do what we should do, that's cutting spending, and living within our means, it's going to affect a lot of people's lives."

Neugebauer also brought up nuclear weapons in Iran, saying that America must do 'whatever it takes" to stop Iran from creating these weapons. He also discussed raising the pay of those serving in the military, the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" enlistment policy, and the Defense Department.

Neugebauer also talked about the significance of Memorial Day. He said that it's important that Americans do not forget that this is a day to honor those who gave their lives for America, not just a sales day or a day off.
