$51 Million

The Texas Tribune reported on Sunday that Senator Ted Cruz now has a war chest of $51 million dollars. According to the report, the Cruz camp announced that in the second quarter of 2015, the combined efforts of Cruz's super PAC's and campaign brought in $10 million.

That number, which combines  contributions to Cruz's campaign and the super PACs backing him, solidifies the senator's status as a potential second-place finisher in the first round of the 2016 money race. Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush is expected to raise far more money than his competitors.

The official numbers for both Cruz's campaign and the four pro-Cruz super PACs will not be disclosed until later this summer. But Cruz's campaign made the totals public Sunday, shortly after Cruz shared them in an interview that aired on NBC's "Meet the Press."

It's an impressive haul for Cruz and shows that he has staying power in the race. What I find even more impressive is that Cruz has been able to bring in the money despite falling in the polls and not being considered a front-runner.

Perry Talks Texas Jobs

Former Texas Governor Rick Perry was on the campaign trail this weekend. According to POLITICO, Perry was interviewed on ABC Sunday morning where he touted the success of job creation in Texas. Perry told ABC that he knows how to create jobs in America.

Perry avoided making a direct promise that he would have an unemployment rate below 5.3 percent if he were president, but said he knew how to get Americans back to work.

“I know how to create jobs: You free people from over-taxation, over-regulation,” he said. “You use the energy resources in North America; I think that you can drive down electricity costs. You couple that with corporate tax policy, lower the corporate tax rate.”

Although lagging in the polls, Perry said he was confident he would “perform very well” in his second race for the White House.

While Perry may be "lagging in the polls", his numbers are actually up and he seems to be making inroads in Iowa and New Hampshire.
