Jeb Splits From W

Not every country in the world is ready to become a democracy according to Jeb Bush. When it comes to the promotion of democracy in Islamic countries, Jeb Bush believes in a different approach than former President George W. Bush according to POLITICO.

Jeb Bush appears to be taking a different tack than his brother on the extent to which the United States should promote democracy around the world as part of its foreign policy efforts.

“It has to be tempered with the realization that not every country is immediately going to become a little ‘d’ democratic country,” Jeb Bush said in an interview with TheDaily Callerpublished Monday. “Iraq would be a good example of that I think.”

Security should come first, the younger Bush said when asked whether the conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq could be judged as successes if those countries end up as autocratic regimes or worse.

“I think ultimately security will lead towards democracy and having an engaged America will help make that so, but you cannot have democracy without security,” he added.

The comments from Bush will probably be well-received by many who disagreed with his brother's foreign policy. I believe Bush's comments also highlight the problem we have seen in Iraq and other countries. When President Obama pulled our forces out of Iraq, the country began to collapse. Iraq needs security and right now they have none.

Chris Christie Calls Out Ted Cruz

In an interview with FOX News, Chris Christie called out both Donald Trump and Ted Cruz. According to FOX News, Christie disagreed with Trump's comments about illegal immigrants and accused Cruz of being a hypocrite.

"I think what he said was wrong. It was inappropriate and I don't think it has any place in the campaign," said Christie, calling Trump a "good friend" who tries to provoke a reaction with his opinions.

The governor also took issue with Cruz's criticism of Republicans for engaging in intra-party attacks. Cruz said on "Meet the Press" that he "salutes" Trump for focusing on illegal immigration, but refused to engage in "the media's game of throwing rocks" at another Republican candidate.

"It seems the favorite sport of the American media is to encourage some Republicans to attack other Republicans. I ain't gonna do it. I'm not interested in Republican-on-Republican violence," said Cruz.

Christie accused Cruz of going after his fellow Republicans by trying to unseat a sitting GOP senator in the last primary. Christie said Cruz "sponsored primary ads" against Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-TN) and other Republican senators, so his criticism seems "hypocritical."

"I find it ironic that Ted Cruz is giving lectures on Republican-on-Republican violence. ... All due respect, I don't need lectures from Ted Cruz," he said.

I don't think any of the Republican candidates have gone too far in criticizing another Republican. It's fine for these candidates to disagree and they should be honest when outlining their differences. There is a difference between that and attacking each other for sport. I'm sure we will see both before the primary is done.
