A U.S. Air Force Airman who was found dead in his home earlier this week in Clovis, New Mexico has been identified.

Cannon Air Force Base officials announced on Friday that Senior Airman William J. Boyd of Jackson, Mississippi was found by one of his roommates Tuesday Wednesday afternoon, July 6. The 27-year-old Boyd was assigned to the 27th Special Operations Wing at Cannon.

“This tragedy comes as a shock,” said Col. Ben Maitre, the base commander. “Every member of this elite unit is a critical part of our Air Commando family here. We are grieving alongside Airman Boyd’s family and friends, and extend our heartfelt condolences to them.”

According to Cannon officials, Boyd served as an AC-130W Stinger II (pictured) instrument and flight control systems journeyman for 16th Aircraft Maintenance Unit, 27th Special Operations Aviation Maintenance Squadron, at Cannon since joining the Air Force in January 2013. He is survived by his parents.
