Current Texas Commissioner of Agriculture Todd Staples has created an exploratory committee for a run at the Lieutenant Governor’s office in 2014.  The 47 year-old Staples' political experience includes stints as a Texas State Rep. and Senator before being elected to the Commissioner of Agriculture office in 2006.  Current Texas Rangers CEO & President, Nolan Ryan, is the chairman of Staples’ Exploratory Committee for Lt. Governor.

“Todd Staples is the top prospect for the Texas Republican Party in 2014,” said Ryan. “I am confident Todd is the right person to lead Texas as our next Lieutenant Governor. He’s a clutch conservative leader who bats right and who will throw out government intrusion.”

Current Lt. Governor, David Dewhurst, could run for U.S. Senate in 2012 in the free-for-all of candidates vying to replace the departing Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison.
