Woman Arrested for Leaving Children in Car Outside Lubbock Store
Twenty-one-year-old Alexandra Estrada of Lovington, New Mexico was arrested on Sunday, July 19th for leaving her two children inside a turned off vehicle outside a Lubbock store.
KAMC News reports that the incident was called in around 7 p.m. at the Amigos in the 100 block of North University Avenue.
Officers arrived on scene and began questioning Estrada and her friend after a customer reported the children in the vehicle to an employee.
Estrada told police that she and her friend left the children as they went inside to shop because she didn't believe they would take very long. Surveillance video shows Estrada and her friend entering the store at 6:41 p.m. and leaving at 7:05 p.m.
She also told police that she left the vehicle on and the doors locked, but one of the children knew how to turn the vehicle off.
EMS arrived on scene and treated the children, who were taken into custody by Child Protective Services.
Estrada was arrested and transported to the Lubbock County Detention Center on a charge of abandoning or endangering a child with intent to return.
