Texas Governor Greg Abbott will hold a press conference on Tuesday afternoon. It is widely expected that the Governor will announce whether or not he will call for a special session of the Legislature.

In the final days and weeks of the 85th Texas Legislature, Lt. Governor Dan Patrick embraced the idea of a special session and said he was prepared to go into a special session to deal with unfinished business. Members of the Texas House Freedom Caucus along with some outside conservative groups have called for Governor Abbott to call a special session to address a handful of issues.

The issues the Governor could call a special session on include sunset legislation that would impact five different agencies, though some believe this is not needed. Abbott could also call on the legislature to take up property tax reform and bathroom bill.

Only Governor Abbott can call a special session and only he can decide what the legislature should debate.
