Is the Texas grid really for what winter will through at it this week?

A major arctic cold front will begin blowing through Texas on Tuesday and it will bring dangerously cold temperatures across Texas, including windchills at or below zero in many parts of the state late at night and overnight.

The front is also expected to bring some wintery mix of weather and even rain to different parts of Texas on Tuesday.

The main concern though is the cold weather. And the good news is that while it will be very cold outside, the grid should be in a fine position for Texans. According to the Dallas Morning News, ERCOT issued a weather watch for Wednesday through Friday during which many Texans will be impacted by the coldest temperatures of the season.

The Weather Watch was issued "due to extreme cold weather across the ERCOT region, higher electrical demand, and the potential for lower reserves."

ERCOT has not called for energy conservation and they expect grid conditions to be normal. As does Governor Greg Abbott. Abbott urged Texans to prepare for the winter weather this week, but said the grid is stronger than ever according to the Dallas Morning News.

“The power grid has never been stronger than it is now,” Abbott said. “There is every reason to be 100% confident the power grid will be able to withstand this challenge.”

The arctic front will start pushing through Texas on Tuesday and parts of the state could remain below freezing until Friday.
