Lubbock County Horticulture Extension Agent Vikram Baliga joined Tom and Laura Thursday morning to talk about pre-emergent and post-emergent weed control and planting wildflowers.

"You can do post-emergent treatment right now" Baliga said. "I would mostly stick to spot spraying stuff. We like to say don't do that after about February 14." Spraying in cooler temperatures will reduce the effectiveness, said Baliga.

Common reasons for planting wildflowers are mainly for the look and because they'll grow places other flowers won't grow. Wildflowers also attract hummingbirds, butterflies and a lot of wildlife.

"We have some native wildflowers in this area, but we are historically grassland," Baliga said.
