A man from West Texas was recently sentenced to life in prison plus 20 years for the murder and dismembering of his victim.

A Horrific West Texas Murder

Back in March 2022, a joint investigation between the FBI and the Texas Rangers was opened after commercial vehicle driver Sanchez Azcuy was reported missing from the Winkler County Sheriff's Office.

Azcuy last spoke with his family just days prior to his empty truck being found abandoned in Winkler County. In the following months, officers and investigators discovered his remains scattered across Winkler County into New Mexico.

Investigators then understood that they were dealing with a brutal murder case where the killer was still on the loose.

How They Found the Murderer

DNA collected at Azcuy's abandoned truck identified a potential suspect: 33-year-old Alejandro Rodriguez Hernandez.

Rodriguez Hernandez was arrested in New Mexico just months later in July 2022 for tampering with evidence. After more information came to light, he was then charged with the murder of Sanchez Azcuy and the abuse of his corpse.

Rodriguez Hernandez was sent to Texas for his trial, where there were many voices of support and relief knowing he was captured.

FBI El Paso Special Agent in Charge John Morales emphasized the fact that violent crime will never have its place in West Texas:

Ramon Alejandro Rodriguez Hernandez was sentenced to life in prison plus 20 years for the cold-blooded murder and dismemberment of his victim. In a barbaric act committed out of greed and followed by horrifying cruelty, Hernandez scattered the remains across the West Texas region, believing he could evade justice.

The capture and arrest of Rodriguez Hernandez is due in part to the efforts from FBI agents in Midland, TX, Las Cruces, NM, Roswell, NM, the Hobbs Police Department, the Lea County Sheriff's Office, the Winkler County Sheriff's Office, and the Winkler County District Attorney's Office.
