What is Online Solicitation of a Minor?
Online solicitation may sound confusing to some, so let's go over how Texas identifies and punishes this crime.
According to the Texas penal code, online solicitation of a minor refers to the communication, language, materials, photographs, or video images with regard to sexual conduct involving a minor under 17 years of age.
Online solicitation of a minor is treated as a third-degree felony in Texas. This means that convictions can lead to a fine of up to $10,000 and/or two to 10 years in prison.
Anyone convicted of online solicitation of a minor is also required by law to register as a sex offender.
