On the Thursday edition of The Chad Hasty Show, Steven Orr from the “West Texas Friday Night Scoreboard” show talked with guest host Carl Tepper about his picks for the big games in high school football this week.

One team that's looking like it's well on its way to the championship is Frenship. Orr said the team remains undefeated this year and is ranked in the Top 10 of the district, and will probably stay that way after tonight's game against the struggling Lubbock High. Another team's that's been having a rough year is Monterrey High School. Orr explained that the Plainsmen really are a better team than their 1-7 record shows, but they are also their own worst enemy with all the interception and missteps they've had all season long. Monterrey takes on San Angelo Lakeview Friday night.

For Week 9, Orr picked Lubbock Cooper vs. Shallowater as his undisputed game of the week. Orr explained that both teams are 3-0 in district play, and Shallowater remains undefeated this season while Cooper has only has one loss for the year. He said this is going to be Cooper's toughest game of the year, and this match-up could very well decide the outright district championship.

Other games to check out this week include Coronado vs. Amarillo Tascosa, Plainview vs. Hereford and Midland Lee vs. Odessa Permian. Orr also discussed 6-man football across the region, as well as his thoughts on whether or not home school teams should be allowed to compete in UIL play.
