[Update #2] Lubbock police arrested 23-year-old Adrian Castillo Tuesday afternoon near 73rd Street and Utica Ave. Castillo was apprehended without incident and will be booked into the Lubbock County Jail for Aggravated Assault With a Deadly Weapon, LPD Public Information Officer Tiffany Pelt confirmed via press release.

Castillo's bond has been set at $500,000.

[Update] The Lubbock Police Department clarified that six victims remain in the hospital after the shooting at the Town Villa Motel, but there were actually seven total victims. Their injuries aren't life-threatening, but are serious, said LPD Public Information Officer Tiffany Pelt.

Those victims are:

  • Marissa Bengoa, 28
  • Stephen Sasueda, 35
  • Jacquelyn Aguillon, 31
  • Israel Romo, 28
  • John Ramirez, 38
  • Manuel DeLeon, 35

According to LPD, multiple witnesses said the suspect in the shooting left the Copper Caboose and got into a verbal argument with a group of people at the Villa Town Motel. The suspect then pulled out a weapon and fired it multiple times at the group.

[Original story] Lubbock police are searching for a man who opened fire into a group of people at the Villa Town Motel in Lubbock, hospitalizing six.

According to the Lubbock Police Department, the shooting occurred just before midnight Monday. Officers responded to a call that there were multiple shots fired at the Villa Town Motel on Avenue Q.

Police have not yet released a description of the suspect, but say it was one man who was standing in the motel's parking lot. He allegedly opened fire at several people who were in an upper breezeway before fleeing in a vehicle. No description of the vehicle has been released.

Police say six people were transported to the hospital after the shooting. "Some of the victims had serious injuries," said Tiffany Pelt, Lubbock Police Department public information officer.
