A member of the Lubbock City Council will host a public discussion later in the month.

City Councilman Victor Hernandez has announced plans for a meeting and public discussion on May 17, 2014, regarding the proposed Zone Change Request for North University Avenue.

Interested parties and concerned citizens are welcome to attend.

The proposal is a request to change North University Avenue from the Marsha Sharp Freeway to Ceasar Chavez Drive from Heavy Commercial zoning to Retail Commercial zoning.

Concerning the issue, Hernandez said, “It is my intention to bring all interested parties together at this meeting. This Zone Change Request proposal has the potential to affect the future business and commercial development along North University, and this meeting will be a good opportunity for residents to ask questions and to have an open discussion about the proposed zone change.”

The Planning and Zoning Commission is scheduled to hear the proposal at their meeting on June 3, 2014.
