UPDATE: Arctic Front To Bring Dangerously Cold Temperatures To Texas This Week
It's going to be a pretty nice day across Texas on Monday. Sure, it might be windy and even chilly in some parts of the state, but by the middle of the week we will all be looking back at Monday as if it were a nice warm day this week.
A major arctic front is heading for Texas and should start pushing through the state on Tuesday. With the arrival of the front, there could be some areas of the state that get a wintery mix or even rain. Showers and possibly even some thunderstorms are in the forecast Tuesday through Wednesday morning for central and east Texas. That includes an area just north of DFW, to Austin, east of San Antonio and down to the coast all the way east to the Louisiana border. In the northern panhandle, light snow is possible from I-40 north to the state line. Portions of north Texas, including Wichita Falls and Texarkana could see a wintery mix.
The real threat with this front will be the extremely cold temperatures. Windchills will be possible at and below zero from the Panhandle to the Big Country and through North Texas. Meanwhile single digit windchills are possible on the South Plains and West Texas and through North Central Texas and even in the Hill County.
An Extreme Cold Watch has been issued by the National Weather Service for parts of Texas.
