Each year, Lubbock plays the guessing game of will it or will it not snow? Sometimes we get a boatload of nothin', while other years it's way more snow than we planned. But what's the largest amount of snowfall the Hub City received in just one day?

Did you know that the earliest recorded day that Lubbock saw its first two inches of snow was as early as October? October 28, 1976, to be exact. We can go back even further to Christmas Day, 1946, when Lubbock saw its first two inches in the month of December.

The record for most snowfall in one day for Lubbock happens to be... February 20, 1961! While the rest of the world was focused on Cold War tensions and President John F. Kennedy's space race with Russia, Lubbock was busy shoveling and plowing a whopping 12.1 inches of snow!

February 20, 1961 had Lubbock in third place with total snowfall. In fact, San Antonio had over 13 inches while El Paso, of all cities, took the number one spot at roughly 14.4 inches that day alone.
