The University Medical Center has notified patients of an incident that compromised the privacy of protected health information held by UMC Southwest Gastroenterology.

UMC Physicians says they do not believe there was actual or attempted misuse of personal information, but that information was exposed on an unsecured server.

The discovery was made on March 12th when the hospital found that an employee was forwarding emails that contained patient information to an unsecured Google Gmail account.

Information that was exposed includes names, addresses, phone numbers, medical record numbers, date of birth, date of service, health insurance carrier, and potential diagnosis.

UMC Physicians also says that all employees will be receiving training related to the securing of patient information. Patients with questions or concerns are encouraged to call (844) 446-6445.
