Two people are dead following a shooting at Buddy Holly Park on Saturday, August 21.

Lubbock Police Department Dispatch received reports of a possible hit-and-run in Buddy Holly Park, located at 1101 North University Avenue, Saturday night at 10:03 p.m.

When Lubbock Police officers arrived, they found a vehicle in the grass off the roadway and as they approached it, a single gunshot was heard from the inside of the vehicle. A male was located inside the vehicle with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Under the vehicle, a female was found with injuries consistent with the hit-and-run report, as well as gunshot wounds.

The male was taken by ambulance to University Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead and the female was pronounced dead at the scene. As of the writing of this article, Lubbock Police have not released the names of the two individuals.

Authorities believe this is an isolated incident and there's no ongoing threat.

An investigation into this incident by the Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit of the Lubbock Police Department is ongoing.
