Trump Endorses Greg Abbott for Texas Governor
President Donald Trump has given a boost to Governor Greg Abbott's primary campaign.
On Tuesday, the former president, who still has a lot of pull with Republicans in Texas and throughout the nation, endorsed Texas' incumbent governor Greg Abbott in his bid for reelection.
The announcement by Trump could give potential primary candidates against Abbott a reason to doubt they could take out the sitting governor, who has a massive war chest and now a key endorsement from the most popular Republican in the party.
The former president called Abbott a fighter who won't let Texans down:
Greg Abbott is a fighter and a Great Governor for the incredible people of Texas. No Governor has done more to secure the Border and keep our communities safe than Governor Abbott. Greg is a staunch defender of the Second Amendment and has made Texas a Second Amendment Sanctuary State. Texas has become a job-creating machine, and our partnership helped restore America’s economic power and success. Greg is also very tough on crime, fully supports the brave men and women of Law Enforcement, and is all in on Election Integrity. Governor Greg Abbott will continue to be a great leader for the Lone Star State, and has my Complete and Total Endorsement for re-election. He will never let you down!
Governor Abbott thanked the former president for the endorsement on Twitter:
Trump has now endorsed Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick and Governor Greg Abbott in their campaigns, and is expected to make an endorsement in the race for Texas Attorney General between Ken Paxton and possibly George P. Bush.
As of right now, Don Huffines and Chad Prather have announced primary challenges to Governor Greg Abbott.
