There is no doubt that you have seen the posts on social media and on KFYO.com about the death of Mac Davis.

Davis was an iconic songwriter and musician from Lubbock, Texas who also appeared in movies and television shows. In 1975, Davis won the ACM Entertainer of the Year award. Davis passed away Tuesday, September 29th, one day after news came out that he was critically ill after having heart surgery in Nashville. Davis was 78 years old.

Throughout the day on Wednesday, artists, politicians, and popular social media accounts continued to honor and pay tribute to Mac Davis.

The Facebook page for the United Supermarkets Arena in Lubbock posted an excellent interview with Mac Davis that he did with Texas Tech Public Media. The interview centered around some of Davis' most memorable moments.


Lubbock Mayor Dan Pope also issued a statement, calling Davis one of Lubbock's "favorite sons":

Today, Lubbock is saddened by the news that we have lost one of our favorite sons, Mac Davis. Mac Davis was center stage in a career that showcased his talent as a singer, songwriter, stage and movie actor and television variety show host. Throughout his career, Mac Davis spoke of his roots and his formative years here in Lubbock, and he generously returned home to perform after worldwide success. Prayers for his family, friends, and fans, and much gratitude to Mac Davis for enriching our lives. God bless, Mac Davis.

A social media account dedicated to Texas history, Traces of Texas, posted a link to an interesting interview with Mac Davis telling a story about Elvis Presley and himself.
