The State of Texas Will Soon Build A Giant Metal Roof Over The Alamo, Here’s Why
The Alamo is one of Texas' greatest sites and it's also a tourist site where people from Texas and beyond travel to in order to learn the history of our great state and the fight for liberty and freedom. And as construction around the Alamo continues in order to bring new life and a experience for visitors, soon the Alamo itself will be a construction zone.
And if you want to get a really good picture of the Alamo as it is right now, make plans to visit soon, because soon there will be a giant roof over the Alamo.
A Temporary Roof Will Be Built Over The Alamo
According to the Texas Land Commissioner and the Texas Historical Commission, a giant and temporary roof will be built over the Alamo due to the fact that the roof of the Alamo is old and starting to fail. According to a tweet from Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham, the roof that is being built over the Alamo will help protect the contents inside the structure from rain and other elements. It could also help in other ways that are critical to preserving the Alamo and the old roof.
A new roof will be installed on the Alamo over the next year or longer. News4SanAntonio reports that the temporary 50-60 foot tall structure will be built in the first half of 2026 and construction could last into 2027. No word yet on how long the entire process will take or how long the temporary roof will be up.
Commissioner Buckingham was recently on The Chad Hasty Show and discussed the roof project:
If you've never been to Alamo, or just haven't been in a long time, you should visit soon.
