Texas Tech athletics has officially announced that they will be hosting their first ever corgi race during this year’s basketball season.

The race will take place during half time at the Red Raider Basketball game on January 3rd against the Kansas City Jayhawks. Of course, in order to put on a corgi race, they need corgis. So, Texas Tech is asking the people of Lubbock to register their corgis for a chance to compete.

If you, a friend, or a family member are interested, you can register for a chance at being one of the five dogs selected to participate in the race. You just need to fill out this form with a few things including your contact information, corgi’s age, name, and the reason they are a Red Raider fan. You will also need to include a photo of your pup along with any possible social media accounts you have that features them. If your corgi is a finalist, you will receive two complimentary tickets to the game for you and a friend (your pup won’t need a ticket).

If I had a corgi, I would definitely apply to participate. This seems like such a fun time for not just the dog and their owners, but for the fans watching the game as well. I remember going to a Tech basketball game that featured a group of extremely well-trained dogs doing tricks with frisbees, skateboards, and more, and it has been my favorite halftime show ever. However, racing corgis might just beat it.
