Two Texas Tech baseball players have earned freshmen All-American honors.

Red Raider first baseman Eric Gutierrez and designated hitter Jarrard Poteete were named to the Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-America team.

The announcement came from Collegiate Baseball Newspaper on Wednesday morning.

They become the ninth and 10th Freshmen All-Americans in school history, while this season marks just the third time in Tech history where a pair of Red Raiders received Freshmen All-American honors.

Gutierrez was one of three first basemen selected to the team, while Poteete was one of eight designated hitters to receive the award. Overall, eight freshmen from the Big 12 Conference were named to the list.

Gutierrez wrapped up his freshman year hitting a home run in four consecutive games during the final three games of the regular season against Baylor and in the first round of the Big 12 Championship in Oklahoma City against Kansas State.

Poteete finished the season with 12 multi-hit games, and recorded four three-hit games during his last 11 games of the season.
