Texas Tech’s athletics director will serve a term on a conference council.

Director of Athletics Kirby Hocutt has been appointed to serve a four-year term on the NCAA Division I Leadership Council.

Hocutt’s tenure on the prestigious council begins later this week.

Every Division I conference is represented on the Leadership Council, which supports the NCAA Board of Directors in identifying issues critical to the future of the NCAA.

The Council takes final action on matters delegated by the board of directors, makes final recommendations to the board, suggests policies, and oversees membership requirements, among other responsibilities.

“This is further validation that Kirby is one of the finest athletic directors in the country,” said Texas Tech University System Chancellor Kent Hance. “We are certainly proud of him and know that he will provide vision and leadership to this prestigious group.”

Hocutt has served in his position at Texas Tech since March of 2011, after serving in the same role at the University of Miami and Ohio University.
