The 1st Q was all TCU. The horned frog defense forced 2 turnovers, a fumble and an interception both by Patrick Mahomes.

TCU also had a 7 minute, 17 play 99 yard drive that culminated in the first points of the game. A rushing touchdown by Derrick Green that made the game 7-0. The drive started on the one yard line after a Patrick Mahomes interception.

The next Texas Tech drive ended abruptly when Mahomes fumbled on 3rd down.

TCU would take over on the Texas Tech 23 yard line, but would go 3 and out and miss the chip shot field goal. Texas Tech would then go 12 plays and drive the length of the field to tie the game at 7 all. Reginald Davis scored the TD on a 33 yard reception.

After the Texas Tech defense forced a second FG attempt in a row, this one made, Texas Tech matched the Frogs with a 41 yard FG of their own. Game tied 10-10.

Texas Tech and TCU then traded punts for the 5 straight drives. A defensive battle was brewing in Fort Worth.

The half ended on a hail mary attempt by Patrick Mahomes.
