Texas Teachers Fired For Attending A Drag Show
A teacher in the Houston area was fired from her job after attending a drag show. Kristi Maris took to social media this week to describe why her career of 20 years came to an end.
According to Maris, she was fired from First Baptist Academy which is located in Baytown and is a private Christian school. Maris says she attended a drag sing a-long at Hamburger Mary's. After attending the drag event, Maris posted about the drag show and even posted pictures from her time at the event according to the Business Insider.
Maris described what happened next to the Business Insider.
"They told me because I went to this show and posted a picture I wasn't walking in a Godly manner, so that being said please remove yourself from my page if this offends you, if you think this is UnGodly, makes me a pedaphile, or causes you to feel uncomfortable," Maris wrote in her Facebook post on Monday.
The school's senior pastor told ABC13 that school policy said: "I will act in a godly and moral fashion at work, on Facebook, and in my community." First Baptist Christian Academy did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Insider.
Hamburger Mary's took to Facebook to defend the not only Maris but another teacher from the same school who was allegedly fired after attending the same drag show. Though that teacher hasn't spoken out.
