The Texas Supreme Court ruled Friday that the State’s school funding system is constitutional.

Understanding the system can be improved in many ways the Texas Tribune reports the ruling stated:

“The judicial role is not to second-guess whether our system is optimal, but whether it is constitutional.”

Justice Don Willett expounded on this topic telling the Texas Tribune, “Our Byzantine school funding ‘system’ is undeniably imperfect, with immense room for improvement. But it satisfies minimum constitutional requirements.”

This marks the first time the state has won a school finance case.
